Bomb attack kills mother, child
A woman and her daughter
have died as shutdown and blockade supporters threw Molotov cocktails
at a covered van in Gazipur City’s Morogkhal on Tuesday.
Sumi Akhter, 28, and her baby daughter, ‘Sanjida’, hail from Bahiman under Ullahparha in Sirajganj.
The
woman’s husband Adam Ali and another daughter, ‘Sadia’, 2, were
seriously injured in the attack that took place on Dhaka-Bypass road
around 10pm.
They have been admitted to the Gazipur General Hospital.
The family was on their way to their village home from Rupganj in Narayanganj.
Some miscreants had thrown a Molotov cocktail on the covered van, said Md Shahin Mia, Officer at Gazipur Fire Services Station.
Fire spread fast, burning to death Sumi Akhter and daughter Sanjida.
Husband Adam and the other daughter survived with serious burns as they managed to get out of the vehicle.
Adam
and Sadia’s legs had been burned, Pranay Kumar, a doctor at Emergency
Department of the Gazipur General Hospital, told bdnews24.com.
Shutdown and blockade supporters had torched a passenger bus in Bhoga around 8pm. Locals were able to douse the flames.
At
least eight passengers had died during this time while scrambling out
of the bus, said Md Nazmul Haq, Sub-Inspector at Bhoga Police Outpost.
The
BNP-led 18-Party alliance had on Monday extended their three-day
shutdown by three more days across Bangladesh until 6am on Friday.
